EX Shot in Truxton Extreme

Meter-based power burst — fill by destroying enemies, fire during peak density, and pair with every primary.

Truxton Extreme EX Shot Guide

EX Shot is Truxton Extreme’s meter-based special fire mode: destroy enemies to fill the gauge, then activate a temporary burst of denser, higher-output firepower layered on top of your current primary weapon. It is not a replacement for Power Shot, Tatsujin Beam, Thunder Laser, Homing Shot, or Star-Mine Shot — EX amplifies whichever primary you hold during its active window.

Understanding EX separates intermediate clears from advanced routing in Tatsujin’s vertical 3D shooter, published by Clear River Games on July 30, 2026 across PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and GOG. New players often either fire EX immediately at partial meter or hoard full meter through worthless downtime — both habits lose damage and safety. This guide explains fill rules, timing per primary, and coordination with Bomb stock.

How the EX meter fills

The EX gauge increases when you destroy enemies. Fodder waves refill meter quickly; sparse sections drain your rhythm if you fire EX early and enter the next room empty. Chain kills during dense invasions to refill faster than isolated sniper shots on single targets.

Meter fill is independent of bomb inventory — bombs clear screens and may destroy many enemies at once, potentially spiking EX gain, but EX activation is its own input from the controls page. Learn both bindings before Arcade marathons.

What EX Shot does during activation

When triggered, EX Shot unleashes a temporary powered burst with denser fire than normal primary output. Visual and audio feedback intensifies; damage throughput rises while the window lasts. Exact duration and density follow Tatsujin tuning, but the player-facing goal is consistent: convert stored meter into maximum HP removed during high-value moments.

EX does not automatically clear all hostile bullets like a bomb. Do not treat EX as a defensive panic button unless your primary spread during EX happens to delete relevant fodder — bomb discipline remains separate; read the Bomb guide.

Timing principles

Fire at peak enemy count. EX returns most value when many targets exist simultaneously — boss add phases, Arena popcorn spikes, or mid-stage cluster rooms. Firing EX between waves wastes overlap potential.

Align with safe movement windows. EX encourages aggression; activating during the calm beat before a bullet hell pattern often traps you without escape options. Pair EX with pattern knowledge from How to Play and Training mode.

Do not infinite-hold. Full meter sitting idle during skippable downtime is lost refill opportunity on the next wave. If the stage is empty and the next spawn is seconds away, slight delay is fine; if you are actively fighting, use EX before damage falls off.

Boss phase sync. Activate as vulnerability opens or when add waves spawn — not when the boss is invulnerable or off-screen. Thunder Laser players especially benefit from EX during stable lock windows.

EX with each primary weapon

PrimaryEX priority moment
Power ShotFull-screen popcorn; wide coverage multiplies EX density
Tatsujin BeamConfirmed pierce line through stacked column
Thunder LaserActive lock on high-HP boss part
Homing ShotMaximum simultaneous targets on screen
Star-Mine ShotCluster entering mid-screen for detonation chains

Cross-check the weapon tier list — weapons that already excel in a context often gain the most from well-timed EX.

EX versus Bomb — decision tree

Choose Bomb when hostile bullets make any aggression lethal regardless of firepower — survival first. Choose EX when you can stay on screen safely but need faster HP removal. Choose both sequentially only when the first tool creates a window for the second: bomb clear then EX on surviving boss core, or EX on adds then bomb cancel on the following bullet pattern if meter was insufficient.

In Team co-op, coordinate EX bursts so partners are not blinded by overlapping effects while one player needs rescue — see How to play co-op.

Mode-specific EX routing

Heart Starter: Experiment with early, mid, and late firing to feel meter return rates without full credit loss on death.

Story: Episode pacing varies; note manga episode segments with fixed add waves as personal EX anchor points across Ash, Bergamot, and Cyrilla routes.

Arcade: Chain stages reward EX on every major wave — empty meter entering the next stage is a routing error unless the prior stage ended on a dry boss only.

Arena: Two-minute Arena runs treat EX as score multiplier during timer spikes; avoid firing during the first sparse seconds unless the stage opens with a full field.

Training: Loop one segment until EX timing becomes muscle memory before taking discoveries to ranked modes.

Speed boost and EX positioning

Manual speed boost helps you stay inside optimal lines while EX runs. Tap boost for dodges rather than leaving the playfield edges where primary coverage — especially beam and laser — disconnects. EX multiplies output you actually aim; drifting off-line during EX wastes the window same as normal fire.

Meter mistakes to fix

  1. Firing at one enemy left before a known full wave spawn.
  2. Saving full meter through boss invulnerability phases.
  3. Forgetting EX while hoarding bombs — sometimes EX clears adds cheaply and preserves bomb stock.
  4. Switching primary weapons during EX without intending to — capsule grabs mid-EX disrupt rhythm; switch between waves.
  5. Ignoring co-op partner meter state — shared screen pressure may mean one player fires EX while the other holds bomb for rescue.

Use the weapon picker tool to choose a primary that matches your EX timing skill — Homing and Power forgive EX fired slightly early; beam and laser reward patient activation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I fill the EX Shot meter?

Destroy enemies during normal gameplay. Dense waves refill the meter faster than single-target sniping. Bombs that kill many enemies may also contribute to meter gain.

Does EX Shot replace my current weapon?

No. EX temporarily adds denser firepower on top of your equipped primary — Power Shot, Beam, Laser, Homing, or Star-Mine — for the duration of the burst.

Is EX Shot the same as a Bomb?

No. Bombs are inventory screen clears that delete bullets and enemies. EX is a meter-based damage burst that does not automatically clear the entire bullet field.

When is the best time to activate EX Shot?

During peak enemy counts or boss add phases when you can safely aggress — not during empty lulls or boss invulnerability.

Which primary pairs best with EX Shot?

All primaries benefit, but Homing and Power Shot forgive slightly early activation while Beam and Laser reward firing during confirmed lines or locks.
